Asthma
Asthma is a common chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Symptoms include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Asthma affects people of all ages, but it is most common in children.
The cause of asthma is not known, but it may be caused by a combination of environmental and genetic factors. Asthma can be controlled with medications and by avoiding triggers that cause symptoms.
The goal of treatment is to control asthma symptoms so that a person can live a normal life. Treatment may include daily medicines to open the airways, breathing exercises, and avoiding triggers.
